On our way back from Barcelona, we had a long enough layover in Montreal that Dr. J and I were able to venture outside the airport to visit the renowned Montreal International Jazz Festival. I love how the streets get closed off to traffic, food vendors pop up everywhere, and the entire city and their out-of-town guests all gather to enjoy good music in an open air setting.
There was even a playground for children, but it started raining when we were there, prompting all the parents to get their kids prematurely out of the bouncy house. I thought these rain boots, which can be found in Montreal children’s boutique, Enfantino, would be a fun runner-up to hop into instead. ~YiShaun

Hola! I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Barcelona, Spain. Dr. J had a research conference he was presenting at, and I got to tag along! We stayed on La Rambla, drank sangria, ate fideua (a Catalan specialty, similar to paella, but uses noodles instead of rice), walked along the Mediterranean Sea under the moonlight, looked up towards the heavens in the Sagrada Familia, and enjoyed the museums, narrow alleyways, cobble stone and avenguidas of Barcelona.
I have a special love of port cities and enjoyed seeing how eclectic this city and its offerings were. No matter what street you go down, there’s always shops and shops of stylish clothing and shoes. Our hotel was right above Custo Barcelona, which makes clothing for men, women and children. I love the Top Gun look of the boy’s jacket, and how sophisticated but fun the girl’s outfit is. ~YiShaun

Why I like Ode: 1) cute, eclectic clothing for girls inspired by traditional textiles from all over the world, 2) started by a former lawyer turned entrepreneur just like me {and I just found out we also went to the same law school one year apart!}, and 3) I can never get enough of inspiring career-change stories where people leave the well-tread path in search of personal fulfillment and meaning. ~YiShaun

I had so much fun today reading at my first Story Time! I’ve informally read to kids before in Barnes & Noble, while waiting at the passport office, etc., but never for a scheduled Story Time event.
I read 2 books today: Meet Pico Puppy and Pima Puppy & Pico Puppy’s Firefighter Adventure. The kids were adorable, especially when they started making fire truck sounds! ~YiShaun

Hi Moms,
My wedding day was on Saturday, May 1, and my new husband and I had an amazingly wonderful time sharing our wedding celebration with our family and friends in New York City.
The most touching part for me was when we said our vows, which we wrote ourselves. A number of people told me afterward that they cried during our ceremony, and it meant a lot to me that they shared in our special celebration.
My step-father has been saying for years, “I want to be a grandfather,” and during his speech at the wedding, he reiterated it again, saying he hoped he would become one within the next 2 years. Well, J and I certainly hope I become pregnant a year from now and have our first child in 2012!
Warmest regards,
YiShaun
